Shoe Tales

Don't you love Twitter? Writer Kath Eastman sent me a link via twitter where Culture Candy  had linked to Shoe Tales.

No more to be said, this is a great project to be involved with and I am going to be winging a card over pretty soon. I'm even sending a pair of shoes, which I'll show you next week, along with my card.

The Story in my Shoe: The Shoe Tales Exhibition

Friday 24th September -18th October 2010.

Milkwood Gallery, 41 Lochaber Street, Roath, Cardiff

Exhibition launch party: Friday 24th September 6.00-9.00pm

Do you have a memorable pair of shoes?

Over five hundred people have answered this question on a postcard, and this exhibition will bring together all the responses in an intriguing and interactive installation.

Send your story
It's not too late to submit your postcard for inclusion in the exhibition. Visit the Shoe Tales website for detailed instructions and address, and for a sneak preview of some of the postcards already received.

They are also looking for unwanted shoes to include in the installation. Contact Sarah on post@shoetales.co.uk for more information.

All materials will be provided, just bring yourself and friends.

About the project:
The Shoe Tales project was launched in Cardiff two years ago, aiming to document the connections between people and their footwear via the medium of mail art sending creative material through the postal service. The postcards received tell tales of borrowed, old, beautiful, ugly, prized, oversized and never worn shoes, to name a few. Shoes left behind in childhood. Shoes with a memory or moment attached to them. Every story gives a glimpse into that person's experience, into their shoes through prose, collage, photographs or the teller's chosen medium.

This is a communal project that anyone can be involved in and enjoy. The project celebrates the cult and curiosity that surrounds the shoe - an object that's been part of people's lives for centuries. Shoetales celebrates storytelling as an expressive, inclusive art form. In this instance, the diverse range of postcards contributed create one big story about people and their shoes, conjured by many memories, imaginations and voices from all over the world.

  2. It is, Chris, isn't it? And the best thing is, I wouldn't have known about it if it weren't for Twitter. Oh how I love my tweeting friend.
