I read a tweet this morning that said ‘no one remembers a
day, they always remember a moment.’ Well, for me, that moment came last night.
After all the hard work and heartache, releasing my ebook, TAUNTING THE DEAD, has
been something of a whirlwind. Within four weeks it went into the kindle best
sellers. I can clearly remember the day when it entered the kindle #100.
Yes, I
screamed and did a little dance. I also shed a little tear.
Last night, during the break of my favourite program, Law
and Order UK, I had a little peak at my sales ranking, as you do, and I saw
that TAUNTING THE DEAD was #10! And yes,
I screamed and did a little dance. This time I didn’t shed a tear as I was back
to watching Law and Order UK (which made me shed tears for a different reason –
such a fantastic episode).
When I went back to twitter, I had so many tweets about my
news. But when I went back to look at it on Amazon, it had gone down to #11
again. My moment of glory lasted all of an hour or so…
TAUNTING THE DEAD is at #13 today. But I will never forget
the moment it reached #10. I ran to my study and printed it off, just in case. In
fact, I still have the page open on my laptop and I don’t want to close it down
because it will update! And if I do slip down the charts to #4,950,684 or whatever,
I will always remember that one moment. My briefest of visits to Number Ten.
Let me tell you something. When I first uploaded the book, the
bloke from Stoke came in and asked how many copies I’d sold on my first day
(before I put this blog post up – Deal or no Deal) and I said seven – mostly to
friends who knew it was there. He said – well, it’s enough to buy a cup of
coffee…
I’ve always hoped that my words would be read someday and it
will continue to be my dream to get that traditional book deal and hold my book
and smell its newness and stroke the cover lovingly and see my name printed on
it. But life is all about these little moments. And maybe being at #13 will be
lucky for me…
